GGDA Keynote

That's Nolan Bushnell. You might recognize him from his small projects, such as being the founder of Atari, Inc and Chuck E. Cheese's. He's been inducted into the Video Game Hall of Fame as well as the Consumer Electronics Association Hall of Fame. Newsweek recognized Mr. Bushnell as one of the "50 Men Who Changed America". He's also founder of the adult entertainment restaurants, uWink, and Chairman of the board at NeoEdge Networks. Hey, he even created Pong, and he'll be in Georgia.

Testing Blog API : SF vs Tekken
Submitted by jjnova on Sun, 07/25/2010 - 18:15So here I am, watching Avatar and testing our API by using a standalone client to update the site. I am using Blogilo right now.
This movie provides me many chances to surf the internet and also gives me the opportunity to say things like, "Street Fighter x Tekken and Tekken x Street Fighter has me excited." Although I really have to question the decision making skills at Capcom. For instance, they release a Vs Capcom game for the Wii that pits Capcom characters against obscure japanese anime characters, that on a percentage basis is safe to say nobody in North America recognizes. Before the game has a chance to really get it's footing, they announce Marvel Vs Capcom for the Xbox 360 and Playsation 3.
Now, I don't claim to be a top notch industry analyst, but that seems like a poor decision to me. Overshadow your own game with one that hosts characters North America not only recognizes, but have grown up with! A sequel to one of the greatest fighting games this side of the ocean. What was that Wii game again? Who cares!? Marvel vs Capcom!!!
Now that MvC3 is about to reach consumers, Capcom announces another fighting game that will use their popular engine, this time pitting their Street Fighter characters against Namco's Tekken roster.
What the %&*^!?

In my younger day, most people were either a Tekken fan or a Street Fighter fan. It was like Nintendo vs Sega, except with two franchises that promoted violence! Now all I can think about is Street Fighter II facing off against Tekken II. Two of my favorite fighting games together at last!
I am excited, for both the Capcom version of the game and the Namco version. Capcom's being based on the Street Fighter engine, and Namco's on their own Tekken engine. 2D vs 3D. Unfortunately for Capcom, this also means I wont be picking up MvC3, just as that game helped me overlook Tatsunoko vs Capcom.
E3 Sucks
Submitted by jjnova on Wed, 06/16/2010 - 18:34I'm not at E3. This is because I wasn't invited, and haven't been since I wrote for publications that had revenue. Now that I freelance (mostly free) for gamecootie in my spare time, and hold a dull job in my other time, I've decided to just post an observation that was made by the folks at Cracked. Thanks to Monkt on *chan for the laugh.

The Humble Indie Bundle
Submitted by jjnova on Sat, 05/08/2010 - 23:08
ANOTHER UPDATE: The deal has been extended and the source code for all but World of Goo is being released as a 'thank you' for contributing over a million dollars to package.
Look, there are some serious indie games out there that deserve your support and attention. You've heard me say it, you've heard critics say it, and you've heard your friends explain why World of Goo is such an awesome game. Don't you think it's time you tried it?
Fine. You think World of Goo is an over hyped flash game. Tell yourself what you want, those of us who played the game know better. So you passed when they let you name your own price. I understand. Really, I do. Well, to sweeten the deal, you are now allowed to name your own price on a bundle of indie games. World of Goo, Penumbra, Aquaria, Gish, and Lagura HD. UPDATE: Samorost 2 now included! MAKING THIS DEAL EVEN SWEETER!
Not only will your money go to the developers, but some of the proceeds will also go to Child's Play and the EFF.
Hey, if you bought these games separately, it would cost you around $80.00. For the next two days, you get to pick the price, and download DRM free games for Windows, Mac, and Linux. Penumbra and World of Goo are worthy of twenty dollars apiece. If you have a soul, help support developers that choose to let you own a game, instead of crippling paying customers with DRM.

You may or may not have noticed that gamecootie was offline from May 1st until today, May 7th. This is because I was on vacation, and failed to pay the domain registration bill. Oops!

Grand Canyon, and Stuff
Submitted by jjnova on Fri, 04/30/2010 - 21:35Tomorrow I begin the trek toward the Grand Canyon. Celebrating my sixth wedding anniversary, and I'm taking the wife along! Our reservations are for Monday and Tuesday nights, but we're going to take our time getting there so I can show her the painted desert, and maybe stop to see the worlds largest ball of yarn.
Hiking 9 miles in the canyon on the first day, and then 12 the next. I'm going to be exhausted. This is my first time camping in a tent. I have already set it up in the backyard and then disassembled it. I even managed to get the thing back in the carry bag. Apparently I'm a tenting prodigy.
Ms. JJNova has never been to the Grand Canyon, so the entire experience will be new for her. The only time I have gone, my family and I just looked into the canyon. I picked up a rock and threw it into the opening, which I think disappointed my father, as he looked at me and said, "Now it wont ever be the same for anyone else." Odd as it may seem, I learned a lot about respect that day.
So here I go again. Wish me luck!
